[NEWS] 231010 IU does player introductions for Sony Ericsson GSL Season 2 20101067

Popular singer IU has been chosen to do player introductions for Sony Ericsson GSL Season 2 (a pro-league for StarCraft 2).

And to be clear, this isn’t a one time thing. IU has been chosen to be THE voice for the Sony Ericsson GSL daily.

Although traditionally shoutcasters typically introduce the players, GSL has decided to go with a different tactic by using popular entertainers to do the introducing.

IU has a bit of experience with both GomTV and MCing with her role in GomTV’s Music Chart Show. In addition, her involvement with the TG Sambo – Intel StarCraft 2 season opener has given her a good reputation to the fans of StarCraft. A popular quote from the game comes from the Protoss Zealot who says, “My life for Aiur.” To show their support, fans have been saying things like, “My life for IU.”

Players and fans alike are excited that such a popular figure in the Korean entertainment industry is getting so involved in the subculture of Korea that is StarCraft. Of course, this isn’t the first time the K-pop industry and StarCraft have collided. Kim Hyung Joon had a show on MBC Game featuring his quest to become a licensed pro-gamer while Super Junior’s Kyuhyun is a documented addict of the first game in the series, StarCraft: BroodWar.
